Valerie Steinkoenig is a professionally trained portrait photographer and founder of Austin Newborn Photography, an Austin baby photo studio. Valerie is a Texas-based award-winning portrait photographer specializing in fine art portraiture of women and their children. Valerie Kay Photography's primary focus is maternity sessions, newborn sessions, and baby milestone sessions. We photograph MOTHERHOOD in our studio. Mothers & their children. Families. Our Painterly Maternity Photo style and clean, timeless newborn portrait style create images that will stand the test of time.

Your session is not complete without printed art. It is our duty to provide you with the best, heirloom-quality prints, wall art, and albums available. Our studio is filled with printed art. We believe in the power of the printed image. In addition to being a Master Photographer, Valerie is also a Print Artist with many years of training in the art of print making. Many of the studio’s fine art offerings are hand-printed in-house by Valerie. It's Valerie's passion for printing and attention to detail that makes the work produced by our studio stand out amongst the rest.

Newborn Photography Experience Process:
I. Scheduling
Newborn portraits are best taken early in baby's first month. While baby is still technically a "NEWBORN" for approximately 3 months, Newborn Photo Sessions are usually scheduled between two and three weeks. Here at Austin Newborn Photography we have found our sweet spot to be between 15 and 21 days.
We'll place a date on the schedule at booking. This will be based on your due date and once baby arrives we’ll adjust this if needed.
If you’ve just discovered us and your little one will arrive shortly or is already here contact us and we’ll do all we can to accommodate and schedule a session. Please be aware, however, that our schedule is often fully booked 1-2 months in advance.
II. Planning and Design
Before your Austin Newborn Photography Session you’ll fill out a pre-session questionnaire. This allows our team to learn about your style and color preferences. Then, we’ll custom-design at least 4 different photography sets for your newborn portraits session. You'll also receive, via email, our Newborn Session Prep Guide. This should help you get ready for your newborn photoshoot.
III. session day
The styling of your newborn photography session will include access to our full collection props, backdrops, and client wardrobe. You only need to bring baby’s necessities. You don't have to worry about anything else as all of the planning, preparation, and set up will have been completed before you arrive at the studio. Newborn sessions are relaxed and not rushed. You should plan to be in the studio for almost 2.5 hours. Snacks and light refreshment will be provided.
Iv. ordering appointment
The best part! Approximately 2-4 weeks following your session you'll be invited back to the studio to view your images and place your newborn session order. You'll be guided through the investment menu as you select your favorite images from your Newborn Session. Together we'll view the Austin Newborn Photography Product Guide, you'll get a chance to see the studio's selection of heirloom quality products displayed around the studio. We'll help you select the best heirloom art to complement your beautiful home.
